剑网3 Documentary
During my tenure as Art Director for the 10th Anniversary of the 剑网3 Documentary, I had the honor of working with one of China's oldest gaming studios, 西山居, renowned for their commitment to bringing ancient Chinese history to life through their projects. In creating the documentary, our aim was to provide players with a glimpse into the game-making process and the tireless effort that went into its creation. My role involved extensive research on the game as well as its historical origin - the Chinese Han Dynasty, to effectively work with the set, prop, costume, and make-up & hair teams to bring my vision to life. To create a captivating ambiance that married both ancient and modern aesthetics, I seamlessly blended Han Dynasty styles with fantasy elements, effectively capturing the spirit of the game while staying true to its historical roots. With a month of filming in two cities across China, we created seven unique sets that transported viewers into the world of 剑网3, leaving a lasting impression on players and enthusiasts alike.
For the writer
This set is designed to embody the writer's unique character: a blend of bold confidence and tender sensitivity. The contrast between large, expressive calligraphy on soft, flowing fabric captures this duality beautifully. The bold strokes speak to their assertiveness, while the softness of the fabric hints at their vulnerability.
Mysteriously veiled by a half-transparent veil of darkness and a symbolic moon, the environment reflects the writer's enigmatic nature.
By embracing abstraction and unpredictability, the set mirrors the writer's spirit. It's a reflection of their inner world, where emotions ebb and flow, and creativity knows no bounds.
For the musician
This set, designed for the supremely talented musician character who can weave all senses into their music, reflects their mastery and sensory alchemy. As they play, the lanterns glow in unison, a vibrant visual echo of the sound that bathes the space.
For the mixer
Crafted for the alchemic touch of the mixer character, this space embraces the delicate dance of healing. As her hands weave through ingredients, cascading rose petals pirouette in the air, echoing the whispers of nature in her remedies. Behind her, silken panels floats, mirroring the transformative power of her concoctions.
For compelling narratives, I designed these realistic sets rooted in the Han Dynasty of China.
